Hilgers Arrangements HfMW jdbs Wiener Staatsoper

If anybody doesn’t know Erwin Schulhoff
– the greatest German-Bohemian com-
poser of the 20th century - they should
start with this CD. It presents Schulhoff’s
enormous stylistic range: his affinity to
jazz in the Suite for Chamber Orchestra
offers an arrangement purely for percus-
sion, the precociousness of his pieces for
string orchestra, his post-Wagner express-
ivity and the playful French touch of neo-
baroque in the Double Concerto of 1927.

The ensemble Tritonus Wimares makes
an outstanding case for Schulhoff’s music
with their depth of expression and techni-
cal brillance.
